The nice thing about decoupage is that it’s rather cheap to do. It’s been called a “poor man’s art,” and for good reason. However, when done right, it looks fantastic!

What you’ll need to decoupage:

  • Something to decoupage onto. Examples: Furniture, photo albums, plates, ceramics, shelving, frames, mirrors.
  • Pictures to decoupage with. Examples: Newspapers, magazines, catalogs, books, clip art, wrapping paper, greeting cards, fabric, tissue paper, napkins, lace.
  • A cutting utensil. Examples: Scissors, craft knife, razor blade, rotary cutter.
  • Mod Podge or standard white glue, diluted with a little water.
  • A smoother, like popsicle sticks. Or, you can get a brayer (looks like a minature rolling pin) to remove wrinkles, excess glue and smooth pictures out.
  • A glue spreader. Many things can be used, including sponge brushes, cotton swabs, pain brushes.
  • Rags, sponges or tissue paper to help wipe up the Mod Podge/glue and other items to clean up.
  • A sealer. Glue or Mod Podge can be used to seal, or you can use polyurethane, spray acrylic or other lacquers.

That’s it! Told you it was cheap.
